EP REVIEW: “2” Pelugion

“2” Is the first official release from Coventry metal trio Pelugion since “Bane of Humanity” in 2018. With appearances at Bloodstock, Wildfire and Godiva Festivals there is a new depth and maturity to the band that started in 2013. The release is perfectly timed to showcase the progression in Pelugion’s bone shaking live metal sound.

Patience and maturity can be found in abundance in doom-laden slow burners “Amen” and “Sun Feeder”. The distorted guitar hook that opens the intro continues to flow through the track, whilst the vocal and blistering drum fills grow in volume and intensity until they converge into a sonic maelstrom to engulf the listener.

“Severed” marks a separation from the first two tracks , and the early sound of Pelugion in 2013/2014. Andy’s Chris Cornell style vocal matched to an Alice in Chains guitar tone , alt-rock riffs , and down-tempo drum beat. There’s no one fixed destination for “2” and “Severed” hints at the broad spectrum of Pelugion’s influences.

An acoustic guitar makes a surprise appearance on the EP at”Odyssey” to bridge the gap to “Descend” and “The Calling”. We’re back on familiar territory here with thrash guitar riffs, beefy bass , and full throttle beats. These are the nods to Metallica and Slayer that early Pelugion fans have come to expect from the band and “The Calling” will be guaranteed to get heads banging once live gigs return to the pubs and clubs of the UK.

“2” was recorded, mixed and mastered by Dan Willett of Univibe Studios .

Release date is 29th of August exclusively on Bandcamp but will be added to all streaming sites later in the year.

The band commented –
“We are so hyped for you all to hear Pelugion 2! We honestly believe these are the best songs we’ve ever written and all the songs sound absolutely massive. A huge thanks to Dan who engineered, produced, mixed and mastered the whole EP. We couldn’t be happier with the result and we know you’re all going to love it!

We’ve been meaning to put out new material for ages and we thought that with the current state of the music industry due to COVID-19, now would be the best time to grab your attention and make you bang your heads! We’ve gotta keep the music alive!”
